The total volume of retail sales of the social consumer goods was 13.543 billion RMB in 2005 and has occupied the first place of all counties and cities of Zhejiang Province for successive 7 years. Foreign trading, foreign investment and foreign economy of Cixi experience linkage development, which fosters an excellent “three foreign” service system. By the end of December, 2005, profiting self-operated exportation enterprises amounted up to 749 with its own import and export value achieving 3.797 billion USD among which export value was 3.146 billion USD; 698 foreign-funded enterprises; 68 overseas enterprises.
 Cixi's advanced industrial economy has formed more than 30 industries including hardware & machinery, electronics & electric equipment, plastics & chemical fiber, textile & garments, chemical industry & construction materials, metallurgy etc. with an industrial system of more than 3000 products. Presently Cixi has more than 30,000 industrial enterprises. In 2005, Cixi realized a total industrial output of 136.58 billion RMB, with an increase of 15.4%. Amongst it, the production volume of poker card, builder fabric, and mini-bearing by Ningbo AAA Groups, Kingring Group and Cixing Group respectively is dominant in the world. At present the industry in Cixi is developing by direction of scale-up, intensivism and internationalism.
Cixi could supply quality infrastructures such as transportation, telecommunication, power supply, water supply and 13,000 hectare of unique developable resources of sea-shoal. In year 2003, Hangzhou Bay Bridge with its southern bridge site in Cixi started construction. This construction fulfills the reality to enable China's national north-and-south traffic main artery---Tongsan Line to cross Hangzhou Bay, which will shorten more than 120 km overland distance between Shanghai and Cixi, turning Cixi as a traffic key post to Shanghai, southern Jiangsu Province, northern Zhejiang Province and south-eastern Zhejiang Province, and especially highlight Cixi as an idealistic hot land for investment. So establishment of the bridge will bring tremendous influence to the economy of Zhejiang and Shanghai, even the entire Yangtze Delta.

 Hangzhou Bay New Zone lies in the north of Cixi city, facing Hangzhou Bay. It is the center of the golden economic city triangle made up by Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo in Yangtze River delta of China. The south approach to the world longest sea bridge (Hangzhou Bay Bridge) crosses the New Zone; there are obvious advantage in location and transportation. The general programmed area of the New Zone amounts to 145 k ㎡ , and it will be a new Eco-modern industrial city with a population exceeding 500,000 and become the economic center in north part of Ningbo.
At present, the 40 km 2 sector under construction is equipped by industrial water supply, civil water supply, power supply, post and telecommunication, thermopower, highway in zone, gas supply, and drainage, with flat terrain. In June, 2005, State Department approved to set up an export processing park in Cixi. This export processing park is located in Hangzhou Bay New Zone, with planned area of 2 km 2 . It is the fourth export processing park after Ningbo, Hangzhou and Jiaxing in Zhejiang Province. East Cixi Industrial Zone
East Cixi Industrial Zone is the reclaim land along the coast of Longshan town,Sanbei town and Fanshi town,located at the easten part of Cixi with a total area of 42.17km 2 . Hangzhou Bay is on its east, Songpu is connected at its west and Ningbo Chemical Industrial Park is neighbored on its south. It is only 30km from downtown of Cxi and 25 km from downtown of Ningbo.
